Terms

About these terms

These terms cover two things: the use of this website, and the bespoke commissions that Stardust Jump, an atelier at 3-4-1 Banseichokanaya in Yonezawa, Yamagata, takes by email. By writing to us about a commission you accept them as they stand on the day you write. The legal name and representative of the operator are disclosed on request.

Using this site

The text and photographs on these pages belong to Stardust Jump unless a page says otherwise. You may read them, link to them and quote a short passage with credit. Please do not copy whole articles or the product photographs onto other sites.

The articles on lace weights, silk, measuring and care are general information from the atelier's own practice. They are not medical, tailoring or legal advice, and they do not replace a fitting.

Prices and quotes

The yen figures on the Collection page are starting prices for each type of piece, so that you can judge the scale of a commission before you write. The price of your own piece depends on the fabric, the lace, the construction and the number of fittings, and it is fixed in a written quote sent to you after the measurement appointment. Tax is stated in the quote. A quote is valid for the period written in it.

Placing a commission

A commission begins when you accept the written quote and pay the deposit it names. Nothing can be bought or paid for through this website, and we never ask for card numbers by email. Payment is by bank transfer or by another method named in your quote, and the quote also says when the balance falls due.

Appointments and timing

The first appointment is for measuring and takes about forty-five minutes. The toile, a test garment in plain cotton, is normally ready two to three weeks later, and the final fitting happens in the finished piece. The quote gives the expected date for your piece; fabrics we have to source can add time, and we tell you if that happens.

A fitting can be moved at no charge when you give at least 48 hours' notice.

Changes and cancellation

You can change the style, the fabric or the details up to the point where cutting begins. After cutting has begun, the fabric has been cut to your measurements and cannot be used for anyone else, so the deposit and the cost of the cut fabric are not refundable. Before cutting begins, you may cancel and we return what you have paid, less any fabric or sample costs we have already met.

Returns and remedies

Because every piece is cut to the buyer's own measurements, we cannot take it back for a change of mind. If a piece differs from what the quote described, or the workmanship is faulty, tell us within fourteen days of receiving it. We will alter it, make it again or refund the price, whichever suits the fault. Adjustments that come up at the final fitting are part of the commission and are made without extra charge.

Delivery

A finished piece can be collected at the atelier or sent by tracked courier within Japan or abroad. The cost of delivery, and any import duty or tax abroad, appear in the quote. Parcels are sent once the balance has been received.

Fit, comfort and health

A piece can be built without underwire, with softer seams or from a gentler fabric when you tell us you need it. That is a matter of cut and comfort. Our garments are clothing, not medical devices, and nothing we say at a fitting is medical advice. If a piece is needed after surgery or for a medical reason, please check with your doctor before you rely on it.

Limits of responsibility

We answer for this site's content and for our work as far as the law provides, and no further. We are not liable for decisions made only on the general information in our articles, or for delays caused by couriers, customs or events outside our control.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of Japan. If a dispute cannot be settled by talking it through, the Yamagata District Court is the agreed court of first instance.
